Well if by “big red ants” you are referring to queens, which are always big (and red since we are talking about fire ants), then yes. All ant colonies have at least one queen that gives birth to all of the workers and most drones/males (some species have workers that can can give birth to male drones but never more female workers). Red ants have been seen in super-colonies with multiple queens but most ant colonies have just one. read more
