In a landmark decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. The case was decided on May 17, 1954. Brown vs. Board of Education was a very important and crucial court case for civil rights. It overturned the Plessy vs. Fuegerson case which stated separate but equal was acceptable. Basically it was giving segregation a further thumbs up. read more
